Finding Balance through Acupuncture

A balanced body is something that is vital to overall health. Many of us have lived most of our lives in an unbalanced body—you know the symptoms, aches, pains, headaches, allergies, menstrual cramps, poor digestion, sore stomach, fatigue, stress and just that feeling of being “off” somehow.

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are the perfect tools to get your body back in balance, and to keep it there. It is nearly impossible for your body to be in perfect balance 100% of the time—we all have those occasions where we may drink too much at a party, eat foods that we normally don’t and at times that we normally do not eat. This may leave us feeling sluggish and off balance the next day. That is a normal physical reaction to consuming things that we do not on a regular basis, and will pass of its own accord within a day or two. However, if you feel sluggish most of the time, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine can free you of those feelings, allowing you to live a healthy and balanced life.

Acupuncture is a method that treats the entire body systemically, by inserting long, thin needles into specific points in your body. One of the tenants of acupuncture and TCM is the flow of qi (“chi”) in the body, which is energy. Sometimes the natural energy flow in our bodies gets stuck or stagnant. An acupuncturist will help move this stagnant energy by inserting acupuncture needles into points on your body to help move energy and balance your body.

Each major organ in your body is connected to specific acupuncture point on your body. For instance, if your liver is what is causing you to feel out of balance, a needle will be inserted at the acupuncture point that corresponds to your liver. Acupuncture can be especially helpful with treating digestive disorders, like Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Statistics report that 9-23% of people worldwide suffer from digestive disorders—Irritable Bowel Syndrome being the most common digestive disorder that afflicts people. Digestion is what most of your body revolves around—processing the food that you eat and extracting nutrition from it. If your digestive system is off, your whole system will feel sluggish and out of sorts.
