FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the insertion of needles into specific points on the body.  It works by correcting the energetic balance of the body, mind, and spirit.

How does Acupuncture work?

Healing is an intuitive reaction of the human body. The body has an innate intelligence that strives to be in homeostasis, adjusting and regulating its systems in accordance to changes of ones external and internal environments.  As a cut will mitigate an immune response to heal a wound, the  insertion of an acupuncture needle into the body is akin to a micro-lesion.  The healing of micro-lesions on very specific locations of the body have been found to trigger very specific healing responses.

Is Acupuncture painful?

No.  Acupuncture needles are hair thin with a solid, smooth-shafted body.  They should not be mistaken for hypodermic or intravenous (IV) needles that are designed to pierce through the body to inject something into the body, or take something out.  Extreme pain is rare with the insertion of an acupuncture needle.  Patients will normally feel a tingling, heaviness, warmth or mild sensations of movement along a channel.

What does acupuncture treat?

Any health condition that can respond to a physiological reaction.  Popular uses for Acupuncture are: pain, chronic illness, stress reduction, emotional balance, and general health maintenance.  Acupuncture treatments can also be used for, but not limited to:  addiction, allergies, asthma, common colds and flus, digestive problems, gynecological issues, high blood pressure, infertility, insomnia, repetitive stress injury, sports injury, and weight loss.
